A decision had been taken to transfer the medical students of the Malabe SAITM medical campus to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). Medical students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) have called for legislative changes before they are transferred to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU).The Student Action Committee of the Faculty of Medicine at SAITM, in a letter to President Mithripala Sirisena, conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to him for providing them with a prompt solution to the SAITM issue. They also noted that their intention was to study in Sri Lanka due to certain financial and social issues, and so they strongly oppose any attempts made by certain parties to undermine the President’s decision and send a fraction of students abroad to continue their medical education in foreign universities.“We look forward to your excellency to come up with all the necessary legislative changes before our enrollment into KDU,” the students said.
