India vs England, 4th Test: As it happened

first_imgHello and Welcome to our live coverage of the fourth Test between India and England in Mumbai. (LIVE SCORECARD | BALL-BY-BALL UPDATES)16.40 IST: Keaton Jennings: Couldn’t be happier, couldn’t be prouder. A life early on, got the beans going. Just chatting to my uncle, trying to approach like I would any other game. Woke up at 5 am this morning, thinking I missed the bus. No video, try to chat with other batters to see what it’s like. After lunch, it started to turn. Virat’s captaincy was superb.16.33 IST: That’s it! England reach 288/5 at the close of play on the first day. So after conceding the first two sessions of the day comfortably, the hosts came back strongly and won the third session handsomely. The session started with England being 196 for 2 and ended on 288 for 5. Debutant Jennings and the all-rounder, Moeen Ali continued to play well with the latter completing his 9th Test fifty. They went on to stitch up a 94-run partnership for the 3rd wicket. They were cruising through just when the man of the hour for India, Ravichandran Ashwin landed a double blow to England in the 71st over by sending both these set batsmen packing. He continued his heroics by taking the wicket of Bairstow and giving Stokes a nightmare of a time. However, Stokes survived and along with Buttler saw off the rest of the day.16.22 IST: NOT OUT! Another close review. Landed around off, comes in again, Stokes looks to clip it through but is beaten and rapped on the pads. The bowler goes up for an appeal but the umpire stays put. Jadeja is confident and wants Kohli to take the review. Parthiv Patel is not sure about it. The Ball Tracker though once again shows the impact to be umpire’s call but hitting the stumps and hence the on-field call stays. That was close.advertisement16.16 IST! India have bowled their quota of 90 overs.16.07 IST: UPDATE! On field umpire Paul Reiffel got a CT scan done and is doing fine now. He has been advised rest for today and is at the stadium only.15.43 IST: WICKET! Ashwin gets his fourth as he scalps in-form Jonny Bairstow. Ashwin bowls it outside leg, Bairstow goes for his favorite sweep. He does not keep it down and hits it in the air towards backward square leg. Umesh Yadav gets under it and takes the catch. Ashwin takes off, he has four to his name and England are again playing with fire. Yes it is important to play positively and keep the scoreboard ticking but you do not need to hit the ball in the air to put pressure on the opposition. India won’t mind this one bit, they will want to keep striking. England 249/5 (80.1 overs) vs India15.05 IST: OUT! Two in a row! Ashwin takes his third as Jennings departs for 112. Tossed up beautifully outside off, drawing Jennings on the front foot. Jennings obliges and looks to defend it off the front foot but the turn takes the ball away from the batsman, catches the outside edge of his bat and goes towards deep gully. Pujara takes an excellent low catch, diving forward. The debutant has to walk back but what an innings it has been from him. Take a bow, Jennings! ENG 230/4 in 70.4. Ben Stokes is the new man in.Reuters Photo15.01 IST: OUT! Ashwin strikes as Moeen Ali departs for 50. One shot too many for Moeen Ali! Tossed up on middle and leg, Ali onceagain goes for the sweep but ends up top edging the ball high into theair. Karun Nair places himself under the ball and completes the catch onthe practice pitches in the square leg region. Ashwin with thebreakthrough straightaway with his first over of the session. ENG 230/3 in 70.2 overs. Jonny Bairstow comes out next.14.59 IST: Moeen Ali slams his 9th Test fifty as England 230/2 in 70 overs14.51 IST: FOUR! That made a sweet sound! This time Jayant tossed up on leg, Ali once again gets down on one knee and sweeps it powerfully through mid-wicket for a boundary. ENG 225/2 in 68 overs14.49 IST: FOUR! In the gap for a boundary! Jayant flights it on middle and off, Moeen Ali times his sweep perfectly and finds the gap in the mid-wicket region for aboundary.14.44 IST: FOUR! Another one from Jennings off Jayant. Tossed up on middle and leg, Jennings kneels down and sweeps through backward square leg for a boundary. He has swept, reverse swept the whole day against all Indian spinners! ENG 214/2 in 66 overs advertisement14.41 IST: SIX! Moeen Ali making his intent clear! Pitched up delivery around leg from Jadeja, spinning in, Ali gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it into thestands over mid-wicket. ENG 210/2 in 65 overs14.37 IST: Just short! Served on middle and off by Jayant, Moeen Ali looks to defend it with softhands but a sharp turn catches the outside edge of the bat and fallsjust short of Kohli at first slip. The ball then runs away to third man, fetching Ali a single.14.32 IST: FOUR! What a way to start the proceedings of the third session! Shortish delivery, spinning into the pads, pulled through mid-wicket for a boundary. ENG 201/2 in 63 overs 14.30 IST: The players are out in the middle. Jennings and Moeen areback out in the middle to continue batting. India begin with RavindraJadeja. Here we go…At Tea on Day 1 of the 4th Test, England are 196/2 (Jennings 103*, M Ali 25*). Follow the game here – #INDvENG BCCI (@BCCI) December 8, 201614.12 IST: TEA! Another session that goes in favour of the visitors. They have lost just the one wicket and have scored at a decent clip. The Indians would have hoped for more wickets when they dismissed Root early but both Ali and Jennings have then played England through to tea with the odd nervy moment. They will know the importance to putting up a big first innings total, which they didn’t in the last Test.India will be happy with the way they have bowled but they have not been that threatening. England bat deep and also score at a good rate so if India do not strike early, they will know that they could end up chasing the game, staring at a huge first innings total. A vital last session awaits us. England 191/2 in 62 oversThat moment when you bag a ton on your #England Test debut. In India. With a reverse sweep #class #nobiggy #INDvENG ??? ?? He becomes the 19th England player to score a century on debut. England 191/2 in 58.4 overs13.39 IST: DROPPED! The plan of coming from around the wicket almost works instantly. Umesh bowls a length delivery outside off, Moeen Ali pushes at it looking to play away from his body and gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies in the slip cordon where Kohli, at the second slip, dives to his full stretch towards his left, gets a hand to it but fails to grab it. England 182/2 in 56 overs13.12 IST:  Paul Reiffelwalks off the field with England team physio. Marais Erasmus replaces him as the on-field umpire. Umpire Shamsuddin is now the third umpire.BCCI Photo13.07 IST: Umpire Paul Reiffel is hit on the back of his head by Bhuvneshwar’s throw. He is being attended by the England team’s physio and in the meantime the players will take drinks break. England 166/2 in 48.2 overs advertisementMost economical Test bowler in 2016 so far – @imjadeja #INDvENG BCCI (@BCCI) December 8, 201612.35 IST: WICKET! R Ashwin strikes soon after lunch. Floated outside off, lures Root into the drive. The ball gets the outside edge and flies to Virat Kohli who was going to his right but adjusts well to take it to his left. Sharp reflex catch and Ashwin is relieved. Patel would be the most relieved man. A vital wicket for India and just at the right time as well. England 136/2 in 38.2 overs12.32 IST: CHANCE MISSED! Fuller on the stumps, Root looks to clip it through but is beaten. The ball flies past the keeper and that is a stumping chance missed.11.35 IST: LUNCH! Brilliant start for England. Everything has gone their way so far, the toss, the chances and the first session despite the wicket of Alastair Cook. The visitors began positively and kept the scoreboard ticking all the time. What should have been countered by some tight bowling by the hosts, was followed by some non-threatening bowling with a spread field.Jennings had a few nervy moments before growing into confidence as the game went on. He registered his maiden Test fifty and is looking set for a big score. England’s intent has been to stay positive, hitting a lot of boundaries — they have already hit 13 and with Kohli predominantly not wanting to give the boundaries, this could set up a fascinating second session. Apart from Jadeja, no one looked in control for India and they will need a much better effort post lunch. Do join us in a while for it.11.13 IST: WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja gets Alastair Cook in his first ball of the match. What have you done, Cook? Floated outside off, Cook wants to have a piece of him, he comes down the wicket to heave it over mid-wicket but the ball goes through him and Parthiv Patel has the easiest of the stumpings to complete. What a strike for India, they were right under the pump. England will have mixed feelings, they were hitting the gaps and putting pressure. Bhuvneshwar bowls it outside off, fuller length, Keaton Jennings looks to defend with his bat and pad together. The players go up in an appeal but the umpire stays put. Ashwin from mid-off comes in and suggests that they should review it. Kohli goes for it but to India’s dismay, the Ball Tracker shows the impact was the umpire’s call and hence the decision stays as it is. ENG 18/0 in 4 overs9.46 IST: DROPPED! Shorter length on off from Umesh, Jennings looks to punch it on the up. However, they were boosted by the news of KL Rahul’s return to the playing XI.Kohli also confirmed that Rahul will open the innings with Murali Vijay and Parthiv Patel will bat down the order. In the bowling department, Bhuvneshwar Kumar may return to partner Umesh Yadav as strike bowler Mohammed Shami is suffering from a sore knee.Local boy Shardul Thakur was named as a back-up option in case Shami is ruled out of the squad. Meanwhile, Manish Pandey has also been included in place of Rahane.India will also aim to keep their 16-match unbeaten streak and are just one short of equalling their own unbeaten record of 17 games without a loss.On the other hand, despite conceding the series, the visitors are expected to come hard after spending a week away in Dubai.England had also replaced two injured players — teenaged opener Haseeb Hameed and left arm spinner Zafar Ansari — with two uncapped players — Keaton Jennings and Liam Dawson. For any chance of reviving their fortune in the ongoing series, the visitors will bank on their batting, which has failed to click as a unit so far.Skipper Alastair Cook will be expecting at least two of his main batsmen — Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler and stumper Jonny Bairstow — to spend enough time in the middle while handling the Indian spinners.Promising left-handed opener Jennings will be Cook’s new opening partner.Meanwhile, the return of pacer Stuart Broad, who missed the third game after sustaining a foot injury in the Visakhapatnam Test, will lend enough teeth to their bowling attack. The visitors are likely to go in with four pacers with leg-spinner Adil Rashid and Moeen filling the spinners’ slots.last_img read more

ICC releases updated version of Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, Code of Conduct

first_imgThe International Cricket Council on Saturday released the updated version of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) System along with the new ICC Code of Conduct and ICC Playing Conditions. These will come into effect from Sunday, September 30, when the first ODI between South Africa and Zimbabwe will be played in Kimberley. This is the third version but second update of the DLS System since its introduction into international cricket in 2014 and has been carried out following a detailed ball-by-ball analysis of scoring patterns, including in the Powerplays, in all limited overs internationals played during the previous four years. This means the current analysis is based on information from 700 ODIs and 428 T20Is, which comprise over 240,000 outcomes of individual deliveries. The latest analysis has revealed that teams have been able to extend their acceleration patterns for longer periods, and the average scores in ODIs have continued to increase. This means that par score calculations will assume that teams will be able to score a slightly higher proportion of their runs towards the end of an innings. In finalizing the updated version, the scoring patterns between ODI (final 20 overs) and T20 were analyzed, as were the scoring patterns between men’s and women’s international matches. The study has confirmed that in both cases, while overall scoring rates are obviously different, wicket-adjusted resource utilisation rates are essentially identical. As such, it has again been confirmed that a single version of the DLS System is compatible with all formats.ICC CODE OF CONDUCTMeanwhile, the following are some of the new offences and the change in level of some existing offences in the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which will also be introduced from Sunday, 30 September. SAITM students seek legislative changes before KDU enrollment

However the students said that details of the transfer was not clear and therefore they requested the President to direct his attention with regards to their concerns when implementing the solution.“We as the students of SAITM joined this institute after being scrutinized by the specified authorities (UGC and Higher Education Ministry ) with regards to our entry qualifications. Therefore we request you to enroll all the students who are currently at SAITM to KDU without any discrimination,” the students said. The decision was taken following a meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena. A decision had been taken to transfer the medical students of the Malabe SAITM medical campus to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). Medical students of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) have called for legislative changes before they are transferred to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU).The Student Action Committee of the Faculty of Medicine at SAITM, in a letter to President Mithripala Sirisena, conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to him for providing them with a prompt solution to the SAITM issue. They also noted that their intention was to study in Sri Lanka due to certain financial and social issues, and so they strongly oppose any attempts made by certain parties to undermine the President’s decision and send a fraction of students abroad to continue their medical education in foreign universities.“We look forward to your excellency to come up with all the necessary legislative changes before our enrollment into KDU,” the students said. Canadian Pacific sidetracks plan for Powder Basin extension takes writedown

AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email Canadian Pacific sidetracks plan for Powder Basin extension, takes writedown by Lauren Krugel, The Canadian Press Posted Dec 3, 2012 2:49 pm MDT CALGARY – Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. is shunting aside plans to extend its network into a coal producing region of the western United States because of poor market conditions. The Calgary-based company (TSX:CP) said Monday its decision is “based on continued deterioration in the market for domestic thermal coal, including a sharp deterioration in 2012.”The company will take a $180-million non-cash charge on its books as a result of a decision to defer the plan indefinitely.Marin Katusa, chief energy investment strategist at Casey Research, says the railway is doing the right thing by scrapping the Powder River Basin plans.“We’ve been bearish on North American thermal coal for over two years,” Katusa said. “It’s better to take the accounting writedown today than a multi-quarter operating loss.”CP acquired the option to build a 420-kilometre extension to serve coal mines in the Powder River Basin, which underlies parts of Montana and Wyoming, when it bought the Dakota Minnesota & Eastern railway in 2007.As natural gas prices have fallen amid ever-increasing volumes flowing out of shale rock formations throughout the United States and Canada, coal has lost some of its advantage as a relatively cheap fuel for power plants. In addition to the cost factor, there are also environmental benefits to making the switch as natural gas emits just a fraction of the carbon dioxide when burned as coal does. Many governments are looking to supplant coal-fired power with cleaner sources, and natural gas is one of the more prominent options.“It’s now becoming a green energy,” said Katusa, adding that players such as ExxonMobil Corp. are making big investments in natural gas as part of their long term strategy.Canadian Pacific remains a major shipper of metallurgical coal, used in the production of steel, through a contract with Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX:TCK.B) to move coal from southeastern B.C. to Vancouver for export. The railway is set to host an investor conference on Tuesday and Wednesday, where new CEO Hunter Harrison will unveil his long-awaited plan to boost the company’s operations.Harrison became CEO of Canadian Pacific this summer after an activist New York-based hedge fund run by Bill Ackman agitated to oust CP president and CEO Fred Green in a bitter proxy battle.Canadian Pacific shares fell $1.40 to $91.30 in Monday afternoon trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. read more

Wärtsilä renews partnership contract with miner Minersa for power plant optimisation

first_imgThe technology group Wärtsilä has renewed its contract with the Spain-based Minerales y Productos Derivados SA (Minersa) to increase efficiency, lower emissions and improve safety of their power plant. The four-year maintenance agreement was signed in June 2017. Minersa has continued to renew its partnership agreement with Wärtsilä to optimise the performance of its 4.5 MW baseload power plant, which supplies power to Minersa’s mining operations, that produce fluorspar, clays, salts, sodium sulphate and other products.Furthermore, Minersa wanted to extend the lifecycle of its power generation equipment and upgrade the engine control systems with the latest technology available in the market. Minersa and Wärtsilä signed the maintenance agreement for the first time in 2000. The renewed maintenance agreement ensures the most efficient operation and optimised performance of the power plant located in Asturias, in the northwest of Spain. The power plant yearly energy output equals the consumption of 20,000 households. In addition to Wärtsilä’s maintenance and advisory services, the scope of the agreement covers upgrading of the control systems for two Wärtsilä 25SG engines. With the upgrade to the WECS Base 1+ control systems developed by Wärtsilä, the engines’ gas consumption will be reduced by over 5% and the productive lifetime of the engines will be extended In addition to the efficiency improvement, the upgrade results in approximately 5% lower CO2 emissions and improved safety.Enhanced asset performance with lifecycle maintenance “Wärtsilä’s solution is tailored to our specific needs. We needed a profitable gas technology solution that would improve the engine efficiency and performance of the power plant. Furthermore, we were looking for demonstrated cost savings. Lower fuel consumption reduces not only the operating costs of the power plant but also its environmental impact. Our highest priority is to produce sufficient amounts of energy for our end customers, reliably and cost-effectively. Wärtsilä helps us ensure we deliver on that customer promise,” says José Alonso, Managing Director, Minersa Fluorspar, part of the Minersa Group. “The renewed maintenance agreement extends the close cooperation Wärtsilä has engaged in with Minersa for nearly 20 years. This kind of customer loyalty is a strong recommendation for the innovativeness of Wärtsilä technology and for the reliability of our service,” says Till Siegmann, Director Services Unit, Wärtsilä Ibérica.last_img read more

Atari Movie Makers Plan to Raise 40 Million via Bushnell Token Sale

Film production and financing company Vision Tree plans to raise as much as $40 million with the sale of these Bushnell tokens.“While the film has received offers from conventional and studio-sourced financing, we have elected cryptocurrency funding to accelerate the filmmaking path in a whole new way, offering Atari fans the opportunity to share in the creation of this movie with us,” producer J.D. Seraphine told Variety.Owners of Bushnell tokens will get a share of the earnings of the movie, and they will also be able to vote on the trailer, and even help select cast members. “We wanted to enable Atari fans and gamers to co-own the project and the experience,” said Seraphine. “This open approach is also more in the DNA and the same spirit of Atari.”center_img This isn’t the first time that filmmakers are jumping onto the blockchain bandwagon. Earlier this week, Variety was first to report that the indie movie “No Postage Necessary” will use a blockchain-based app for promotion and distribution when it is being released this June.Seraphine told Variety that he has high hopes for the technology. “Blockchain technology and cryptocurrency financing will enable independent filmmakers and artists to not only create, but also own their projects that they can then grow over the span of their own career,” he said. The Atari movie is currently in pre-production, and is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way as well as Vision Tree and Avery Productions. It’s being pitched as a biopic about Atari’s founder and his life story of starting out as a pinball machine repairman who went on to found one of the most iconic video game console brands.Bushnell’s time at Atari recently came under scrutiny after allegations surfaced that he fostered a sexist culture at Atari. Bushnell was set to receive an award at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, but the conference rescinded the award in response to these allegations. At the time, Bushnell applauded the conference’s decision and apologized for any past indiscretions. In a statement sent to Variety this week, Bushnell chose to instead paint a different picture of Atari:“We created some extremely strong and capable professional women at Atari. Equal pay for equal work. Promoting women due to capability, and gender not being a promotional construct. We elevated women’s rights to the pinnacle of that time, and I’d do it all again just the same way.”last_img read more
